The website design course will cover all the major aspects of creating and maintaining an artist portfolio or informational website. The class will provide an understanding of general web technologies and how they are utilized throughout the web. As a final result each student will have created their own website and know how to keep it up to date.
Week 1 : Introduction
Introduction to website design
Discussion of the basic process of web design and how the internet works
Begin site map creation
Week 2 : Design Phase Class 1
Discussion on creating a design within the table format, working with fonts in
designs and designing with slices in mind
Begin to design websites
Week 3 : Design Phase Class 2
Continue Discussion on Slicing a design into table cells and previewing design
Finalize designs and create first sliced HTML page
Work with students individually to troubleshoot any problems and check for
design complications
Week 4 : Design Phase Class 3
Discussion of turning the Sliced HTML page into a website template, the basics
of CSS, and making text areas
Create website templates
Implement global styles with CSS
Week 5 : Content Phase Class 1
Discussion on page linking and website organization
Finalize site maps
Add navigational area to template
Begin collecting content
Week 6 : Content Phase Class 2
Discussion and demonstrations on manipulating content for website
Prepare all content to be added to pages
Begin creating blank pages from template and adding content to pages
Week 7 : Scripts
Discussion on Java-scripts, PHP, Flash and META tags. Where to find them and
how they are used throughout the web
Finish adding content to website
Week 8 : Uploading
Discussion on servers, domains and making your website live
Upload websites on to server and test.
